Born in Wellington in 1966, Antony Nevin gained a Diploma of
Teaching and a Diploma of Fine Arts at Otago University, before
settling in Melbourne for 6 years, where he completed a
Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Arts and a Master of Arts at the Royal
Melbourne Institute of Technology, while simultaneously teaching
and raising a family.
Nevin has a distinctive painterly style incorporating vibrant
colour, bold abstract design and thick textured surfaces often
coated in layers of gesso glaze. This insistence on the primal
and
fundamental qualities of paint enhances Nevin's gestural and
Expressionistic style.
Having
relocated to Wellington, Nevin is
currently Senior Tutor in the
Institute of Communication
Design at Massey
University's Wellington
campus. He remains committed to painting and graphic
design and is renowned for his weekly series of illustrations
depicting slices of life - the weird and the (not so)
wonderful.
