Born in Wairarapa in 1958, Bridget Bidwill graduated with a
Diploma of Fine Arts in painting from Ilam School of Fine Arts,
Canterbury in 1977 and has exhibited regularly in Auckland and
Wellington since the early 1980's.
Described as a painter-colourist, Bidwill has created her own
vocabulary of form (complete with signature elements such as
vessels, leaves and bottles), drawn together as a visual language
by her subtle and exacting use of tonal and textural
elements in her work.
Bidwill uses a variety of different media such as oil stick and
pastel as well as acrylic and oil paints to generate depth and mood
in her works. Coupled with the use of light and shade to create a
sense of perspective in an otherwise abstract context, Bidwill's
works give the effect of eloquent still-life interiors - frozen in
a moment of rearrangement.
