Dorothy Meharry was born in 1948 and educated at Whitecliffe
College of Arts & Design, graduating with a Master of Fine Arts
in 2006. She also holds a Certificate in Multi Media Studies (2002)
and is a member and exhibitor of the Mairangi Art Centre.
Meharry's abstract paintings combine her love of NZ native flora
- in particular the NZ flax leaf (the 'harekeke' of her
Harekeke
Dreaming series) - with her interest in contemporary
technological processes.
These disparate influences and their expression through the use
of mixed media form part of Meharry's metaphorical comment on the
metaphysical character of parallels inherent in nature: change and
constancy, light and dark, tempest and calm.
