Auckland-based artist Greg Johanson studied at Elam School of
Fine Arts, graduating in 1999.
Johanson's work has its theoretical basis in an investigation of
the structures and processes of our physical environment; his is
essentially an appreciation of the beauty of the unseen, underlying
order of the seemingly chaotic physical world. Each of
Johanson's works are painstakingly created using a traditional
technique involving the application of multiple
layers of gesso, each layer carefully sanded and refined to
produce the specific chalky surface that allows the intricacies of
Johanson's molecular motifs to shine through.
Having shown in several group exhibitions, Johanson held his
first solo show in Auckland in 2000 and in recent years, his work
has been selected to tour nationally with the Wallace Art
Awards.
