Loveday Kingsford studied painting, drawing, sculpture and
design at the Elam School of Fine Art in the late 1950's. She
travelled and lived overseas in the 1960's absorbing cultural
influences from Australia, Greece, Europe, England and the U.S.A.
Kingsford studied drawing in Athens, London and Sydney and sold
work from the Redfern Gallery in London to a public collection in
Leicestershire.
She tutored in life drawing and landscape painting at the
Auckland Society of Arts from 1979 to 1986 and initiated a
Certificate Course for A.S.A. pupils. This course was the pilot
course for later degree and diploma courses at the A.S.A. In 1986,
Kingsford moved to Nelson where she produced a considerable body of
work and was able to paint full time for
seven years. During this time works were sold to
collectors in the South Island, Wellington, and Auckland and
in other places in the North Island.
Returning to Auckland in 1993, she tutored at the Mairangi Art
Centre, Art Station in Ponsonby and at community classes in
Birkenhead and Parnell while preparing for exhibitions in
Christchurch and Auckland. These included solo exhibitions at the
Dobson and Bashford Art Gallery and at the Portfolio Gallery
Auckland. Kingsford has recently sold work privately to interested
collectors while working at integrating abstract elements with
figurative references. She is particularly interested in drawing,
printmaking and figurative painting.
