Mandy Thomsett-Taylor graduated in
2007 with a Masters in Art & Design from the Auckland
University of Technology and currently lectures the Bachelor of
Design Degree at UNITEC in Auckland.
Utilising often innovative and unusual
methods of application, such as colanders, dish racks and other
found kitchen utensils, Thomsett-Taylor's paintings reflect her
particular interest in the idea of the 'decorative'.
By recontextualising the ordinarily ornamental - floral
arrangements, food presentation, furnishings and entertainments -
as objects of beauty, Thomsett-Taylor's intricately composed works
draw our attention to the allure of decorative items in everyday
life and propose a reconsideration of the purely visual decorative
experience.
