Serena Buonaguidi-Haynes was born in London in 1968 to
Danish/Italian parents. She studied fine art and sculpture at Epsom
Art College, where she began casting faces and taught herself basic
prosthetics. She went on to become a successful makeup artist,
working in the advertising industry for the past thirteen
years.
Buonaguidi-Haynes returned to fine art in 2003, painting from
her mother's studio in Chelsea, London. Working with canvas
laid flat on the floor, Buonaguidi-Haynes uses
unconventional painterly methods including sponges,
finger-painting and bold brush strokes, with pieces of wire and
twigs employed to 'scratch out' finer details.
Buonaguidi-Haynes moved to New Zealand nearly three years ago
and took up residence in West Auckland, where her studio nestled
into the bush of the Waitakere Ranges provides her with constant
inspiration.
