Born in 1981, Dane Taylor attended Auckland University's ElamSchool of Art, graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts(Honours).

Taylor's work combines both painterly and photographic application in equal measure. Utilising found images from a range of media including vintage postcards and stock photography, Taylor manipulates his base content to create an 'ideal' that provides afoil to the organic geometry of the painted mark that both penetrates and hovers above this pristine picture plane. The tension created between the perceived 'purity' of Taylor's mechanically produced and digitally manipulated media and the quasi-mechanical appearance of the meticulously hand-applied mark of the artist sustains Taylor's work and offers an insight into the greater tension at play between modern modes of visual communication and the traditional spheres of artistic endeavour.

Taylor's multi-disciplinary practice has led to participation in numerous group shows throughout New Zealand and Japan as well asthe 2007 publication of art 'zine' Celebretard (co-founded with Kerry-Ann Lee) and the publication of his photographic book BlackInk at the George Fraser Gallery in 2009.

Taylor continues to produce work from his Auckland studio and exhibits regularly throughout New Zealand.
