Aaron McConchie is an Auckland-based, multi-disciplinary artist whose endeavours range from sculpture and installation pieces to painting, printmaking and audio works. McConchie attended Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
McConchie's Decimate series is a collection of works that explore the connection between past and present technology focusing on the intrinsic connection we (as the viewer)have with archetypal objects of our past and how those relationships reflect the shifts in the societal constructs that we may or may not be aware of. As McConchie notes, 'Each work in the Decimate series represents an archetypal object that has helped to define a generation. These products comfort us and their presence is reassuring.'
McConchie's has participated in numerous group exhibitions and won the 2009 Fieldays No.8 Wire Art Awards as well as being judged a finalist in the 2011 Wallace Trust Art Awards. McConchie has a particular interest in public installation and sculpture and continues to produce work from his Auckland studio.
