Born in Methven, Beverly Rhodes attended Victoria University,graduating with a Masters in Applied Clinical Psychology in 1990.Applying her experiences in the field of psychology to her artistic work, Rhodes gradua ted with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Quay School of the Arts at Wanganui Polytechnic in 1997 before travelling to RMIT University of Melbourne where she completed her Masters in Fine Arts in 2004. Her 2004 MFA graduation work was shown at the Michael Hirschfeld Gallery, City Gallery Wellington and in January 2008 one of her works was exhibited as part of MOTATOU, the Ngai Tahu Whanui exhibition at Te Papa Tongarewa.

A multi-media artist with an experimental attitude to her work, Rhodes practice cuts across multiple genres, from painting anddrawing to sculpture and installation. Trauma and loss are underlying themes in her work, introduced with the aim of engendering an interactive process between the workand the viewer a process intended to provoke an emotional rather than intellectual response.

Since 1997 Rhodes has held solo exhibitions in Wellington andChristchurch and has also taken part in group exhibitions in Christchurch, Auckland and Melbourne. She has been a finalist inthe Wallace Trust Awards, Waikato Art Awards and the COCA Anthony Harper Award. In 2001, Rhodes was the winner of the painting award at the prestigious Norsewear Art Awards.
