Chris Mules is an Auckland-based artist whose work spans a broadrange of contemporary practice. Mules attended Auckland University's Elam School of Fine Arts, graduating in 1998 with aBachelor of Fine Arts. Mules continued her studies to Masters level, graduating MFA from Elam in 2002.
Mules' work explores an interest in the relationships between objects and their environments. More often than not, Mules draws this association into the built or architectural environment anduses her work to describe the emotional responses evoked by theinteraction of objects within a certain space.
According to Mules, this approach to spatial form lends itself metaphorically to the idea of space “in terms of memory, instinct, imagination, real space, spaces in between and the place where unconsciousness becomes awareness.“ Mules has exhibited at numerous group and solo shows and her works are held in public and private collections throughout New Zealand. In 2010, Mules' work CompoundFracture won the Premier Award at the prestigious OBJECTive Art Awards. Mules continues to work from her Auckland studio.
