Katie Thornton is a multi-disciplinary artist currently working in London, United Kingdom. She attended the Royal MelbourneInstitute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, graduating in 2007 with a Masters in Fine Arts.
Thornton's work illuminates the significance of the 'event' - the act of painting or making - as a site for inquiry, response and invention. To Thornton, this process is full of wonder and possibility and her paintings, photography, objects, and drawingsreflect this inquisitive joy.
Individual pieces are arranged into scenes or compositions:placed in the corners of rooms, stacked on top of each other, propped against walls, laid on tables. Each element is specifically and deliberately positioned to emphasise the dynamic and active relationships between painting & space, painting & object, colour & colour and colour & space.
Thornton has exhibited her work in a number of individual andgroup exhibitions in New Zealand, Australia and UK and continues to produce work and exhibit from her London studio.
